Mini-blackout on University Pl.

On the one-year anniversary of the worst blackout in New York City’s history, a water-main break was apparently the cause on Monday night, Aug. 9, of a power outage on the west side of University Pl. between 13th and 14th Sts. Tenants of the Van Buren apartment building on the corner of 13th St. and University Pl. were without power. Many of the tenants waited on the sidewalk in the darkness for the electricity to be restored. The cause may have been due to construction work in a building space next to California Pizza on University Pl.
